Lest We Forget

Monday, 14 November 2011

This Remembrance Day I had the honour to work on this one-hour documentary honouring our veterans and war heroes. "Canada Remembers; Festival for Heroes" Aired November 11th 2011 On VisionTV and Nov 13 on SCN.

My task was to add polish to the final documentary. My graphic pieces included the intro and bumpers, lower thirds, segment titles, performance titles and opening and closing credits. I was also in charge of keying the interviews, which were shot on greenscreen.

The intro to the documentary (featured in the promo above) was conceptualized by our director, Anthony Towstego of Thomega Entertainment. Using a series of images all the way from World War I, through to the present day struggle in Afghanistan, I built a 2.5D animation that would honour our heroes and keep with the "Festival" theme running throughout the doc. The 3D text at the end added that extra bit of heroism.

The documentary recounts the stories of sevaral vets and families from WWII and Afghanistan, all set at the Canada Remembers International Air Show in Saskatoon. This is a festival that has been held for the last 15 years, and its main goal is to say thank you to everyone who has served our contry. One of the most amazing things about this documentary; The festival organizers were seriously considering cancelling the air show for 2012 due to declining public interest. But after watching this documentary, they decided to run it for another year.

All in all it was a great project to work on, and I can't wait to do it again next year. It's my little thank you to everyone who has fought for our country.
